Assisted Living News From Assisted living federation of America (ALFA)

The Assisted Living Federation of America defines assisted living as a senior living option that combines housing, support services and health care, as needed. Assisted living is designed for individuals who require assistance with everyday activities such as meals, medication management or assistance, bathing, dressing and transportation. Some residents may have memory disorders including Alzheimer's, or they may need help with mobility, incontinence or other challenges. Residents are assessed upon move in, or any time there is a change in condition. The assessment is used to develop an Individualized Service Plan.

Assisted Living Counts in 2010 Census

The 2010 Census will include assisted living as a defined category of group quarters for the first time, and the Census Bureau has developed special procedures for counting people who live in group quarters.

Census workers will begin visiting assisted living communities in February and March 2010 to work out plans for the headcount with administrators. The actual count will take place using special census questionnaires (called Individual Census Reports) in April and May.

Most Americans will be counted in the 2010 census by completing forms that will be mailed to every household in the country. Go to 2010.census.govLink Icon for details.
